Chandler Lighting Project Wins Product Innovation Award

TEMPE, AZ - 05/26/2011 - One of the collaborators of the Chandler lighting project, Kim Lighting, won a Platinum Product Innovation Award 2011 for the most energy efficient use of solid state lighting. The PIA awards are sponsored by Architectural SSL.

The challenge was to specify a renewable energy system and cutting-edge, energy efficient luminaire which meets the required light levels to illuminate the community pathway. The Kim Lighting solution: WARP9 LED luminaire (with solar system).

Kim Lighting collaborated with the AZ Department of Transportation and Solar Traffic Controls to illuminate one of Chandler's major community pathways, the Western Canal walkway which borders Mesa and Chandler, AZ.

The project was originally specified by ADOT to employ HID sources. However, the specifications were switched once ADOT learned of both solar and LED performance advancements, and rewrote the specifications to bridge the two cutting-edge technologies. Installation was completed by Royal Southwest.
