Over 100 School Zone Beacons shipped in second quarter
TEMPE, AZ - 06/06/2012 - What would ordinarily be a slow time for
solar-powered school zone beacons has turned into a busy period for Solar
Traffic Controls and its distributors. Usually, STC fills most school zone
orders during the third and fourth quarters of the year, but 2012 has been
an exception due to the hard work of STC distributors in the Midwest and in
the Mid-Atlantic states on the East Coast.
The most significant single project was brought in by Traffic Systems and
Technology for the City of Baltimore for just under 100 systems. The
project consists of the STC 80S065 school zone flasher power system
featuring a 65W solar array and a single 80Ah sealed battery...more.
Each system is designed to run dual 12-inch amber LED beacons (STC Gen 2B
LED lamps) up to 4 hours a day on school days. The STC-01time clock allows
up to 6 on/off periods per day,16 holiday skip periods and up to 12
alternate schedule periods per school year. The clock requires no cryptic
codes to remember to access the various programming steps.
Since the city purchased a large number of systems, STC included two Desktop
Programmer (DTP) kits with memory chips for the project The DTP allows
users to sit in the comfort of their shop or office and program their school
schedule. Once the DTP clock program has been verified, the user simply
uploads the program to a memory chip and takes the chip to the field. The
chip is inserted into each field clock to receive the program, and power
cycled to the system. The chip then copies the program to the local clock
thus allowing for less than 5 minutes of programming time per location.
...more.
Other substantial projects have come in from STC's Midwest distributor,
Traffic Safety Corporation, for various locations throughout its territory.
Again, all the systems use the STC-01 clock for control of the beacons and
the STC Gen 2B DC LED lamps.
When choosing a school zone flashing beacon, it's all about the light output
not the form factor or just the price. If you are specifying a light for
safety, you should get a realistic amount of light.
