City of Albuquerque awards contract to STC for Driver Feedback Signs

TEMPE, AZ - 11/02/2009 - Solar Traffic Controls has been awarded a two-year contract from the City of Albuquerque, NM to furnish both solar and AC-powered radar speed signs. STC offered a package using its Speed Awareness Display (SPAD) solar power package and the LED 3M Driver Feedback sign.

The new 3M Driver Feedback Urban (DFBU) sign features a 15-inch LED display. The display can be programmed for either amber or red digits based on speed thresholds preset by the user. Data logging and a white strobe function are integral to the unit. Users link to the sign via a Bluetooth connection from a laptop to adjust speed set points or to retrieve data.

STC includes a solar-powered SPAD package to run the signs 24/7. The system includes a band mount installation package which allows the city to install the systems on existing poles 6-inches or greater in diameter. Conduit and wiring to connect the sign to the control enclosure are included to speed installation.

Additionally, the new all-LED design of the sign allows smaller solar power systems than with previous 3M Driver Feedback signs. The 3M Driver Feedback signs are dynamic signs which encourage speed limit compliance in situations of driver distraction; cell phone usage; kids in car seats; fast-moving traffic and visual clutter.
